The trio have called into home, where they're recovering after an lengthy tour in support of their new album, I Quit.

"We truly set out to make a rock album this time, so it's a significant step," adds Alana. "But we're just appreciative for the women that paved the way."

Emotional Upheaval and Laughter

The project emerged from a phase of emotional upheaval. All three sisters were single, and the music captures that strange liminal space where you're glad to be free, but not entirely ready to move on.

"I adore way of putting it, yes," says Danielle. "I Quit is essentially a personal statement. You have to actively work on ignoring the outside opinions and saying, 'I don't give what people think'."

That newfound resilience demanded a new sound – more organic and immediate than any of the music the band had done before.

For Danielle, who worked on producing the album, that was founded on the drums.

"Drums are such a nuanced thing, and I focus so intensely about it," she states.

"'Journey of the drum sound' will be the subject of our biography," quips Alana. "Our motto is, our albums cannot begin until we find the ideal drum sound."

Anecdotes and Collective Laughter

The trio's honesty shaped the album's marketing, where the sisters shared some of their romantic misadventures.

A former partner broke up with Este over a medical concern. Alana told a story of travelling to celebrate New Year's Eve with someone, only to receive a high five at midnight.

"Experiencing these setbacks, you just feel like there's only darkness," says Alana. "Therefore to be able to share those stories and have them tell you more outrageous stories, it's therapeutic."

A Confident Future

One can easily sense a evolution in the band. Today, Haim are more assured of their position in the industry.

They're festival headliners, with chart-topping albums and an global audience.

Yet Haim will always be their number one commitment.

"Me and my siblings have been making music since I was little," shares Alana. "There is no alternative that we were meant to do. And I'm really thankful we've made it and we're still making music."
